Patchtown Days

There is just nothing wrong with these appliqued linen towels made some time in the 1950's. They were part of a feedsack exhibit at Eckley Miner's Village Patchtown Days. The whole village is a worthwhile side trip, but especially during Patchtown Days, when local ethnic societies prepare food (stove rags anyone?) and reenact life during the peak of hard coal extraction in the region. Really compelling stuff, makes me want to install a solar panel immediately.

There are several pristine victorian homes in the village and the clapboard sided miners houses are being renovated to a point that restores my faith in real materials. The details are simple perfection, and anyone who thinks vinyl siding is a good idea should go check it out.
