Banded Cut Off Shorts How-To

You will need:
1 Pair Ratty Old Pants
1 Ratty Old Oxford Shirt (or other scrap material)
Scissors
Thread
Iron and Ironing Board
Tape Measure
Chalk Pencil
Measure from the leg opening to just above the holey knee. In my case it was 9 inches. Make a mark with the chalk pencil every few inches all around the leg. Cut along the dotted line you just drew.
Now you have shorts. Measure the circumference of the leg opening.
Cut two strips 1 1/2 inches wide and two inches longer than the leg circumference. Fold and iron one long side of each strip to 3/8".
Pin raw edge of strip around the WRONG SIDE of a leg opening. Start and end with the strip folded at 45 degrees. Be sure the angles completely overlap.
Sew a 3/8" seam at the raw edge. Open and press.
Turn the folded edge of the trim toward the outside of the shorts. Pin the edge along the pervious line of stitching. Pin. Top stitch as close to the outside edge as possible.
