How to Copy a Fold Over Waist Skirt

To begin, fold the skirt you are going to copy in half lengthwise. Trace the outer edge of skirt portion. You will have three sides ending at the waist. When you remove the skirt from the paper, connect the two ends to make the forth side. Do the same with the waist band piece. Now double the waist band piece lengthwise. Mark the "fold" edge of each piece. Add 3/8" seam allowance to the waist and sides of the skirt piece. Add 1/2" to the hem edge. Add 3/8" seam allowance to the three non fold edges of the waist piece.

Cut out the pattern pieces. With the grain of the fabric running parallel to the length of the skirt, cut out two skirt pieces, and two waist pieces. Right sides together. Pin and sew the two sides of the waist piece, and two sides of the skirt piece.
Turn the skirt piece wrong side out, and the waist piece right side out. Pin them together along the waist of the skirt. Sew. Turn garment so the skirt portion is right side out.
Fold the waist piece down over the seam between waist and skirt, so that is covers the seam by about 1/2". Top stitch 3/8" from the raw edge of the waist piece.
Turn the hem up 1/2", pin and sew 1/4" from the raw edge.
Done!
