Maxi Sundress Redo

You remember the self drafted maxi dress from KCW, right? Well I kind of hated it (maybe you noticed I never really showed the front). L, of course, loved the dress. She was having princess fantasies before she even put it on, and I might have promised she could wear it at the beach. At the time, I thought it would be a good thing to break up the all that print with a solid. It wasn't. I wanted to fix it, so my sweet little pixie could wear it for more than just dress up, but I was torn as to whether I should cover up the part I didn't like (i.e. cute little short sleeved sweater), or rip it out and start over. I did both. 

I gave myself an hour to fix it, replacing the brown bodice with a print. No problem right? Little snip here and press there... Three hours later (it took 45 minutes to get the bodice off the dress. Seam ripping is the only bad thing about my precious serger.) with restless kids, overdue library books and a vacation to pack for, I was still sewing. Geesh! But I am now almost as happy as L is with the result. If you liked the brown better, please keep it to yourself!

I'm hoping that this little sweater will magically turn itself into a lovely knitting pattern for fall with several variations. I'd better get busy!

Couldn't resist showing L's self styling. This is a necklace from the bead kit I made her a few years ago. And a shell necklace she made all by herself with last years seashore haul.

Have you seen the Knock It Off series from Elegance & Elephants? My original idea for this dress was hanging on a rack at Target. Not an exact replica, but pretty close.
